Thursday, March 09, 2006 Recently took up a scuba diving beginner's course with a few of my section mates. Just completed theory and practical yesterday. The practical was held at Outram Secondary school.. Siao the school damn big and there is a diving pool inside. Our instructor, Raymond, drove us there after theory. We began by swimming 200metres non-stop and the straight away trap water for 10 minutes. It was quite ok la for people who go swimming often. After that Raymond taught us how to assemble the equipments and then its time to gear up. He told us to inflate our BCD (Buoyancy-control device) and then swim to the other side of the pool to start our confined water session. Sia la it really is a brand new feeling breathing underwater. At first not very use to it and panick a little.. inhale and exhale too fast(which is not the correct way to breathe underwater) and end up short of breath. After a while calm down a little then feel much better. Really feel like standing up and get out of the water(we were kneeling while raymond demonstrate to us). Initially raymond told us to stay underwater no matter what.. so bo bian must tahan. After he demonstrate we had to do one by one and show him.. quite fun actually. we learnt how to remove and replace our mask underwater all that.. Then my friend very funny.. we are supposed to exhale through our nose to clear the water out of the mask but he kept blowing air out of his mouth. In the end he had to do over and over again while we kneel there and watch. After that finally can surface for a while.. damn cold la when we surface.. Stupid wet suit short sleeve one.. i was shivering like f..... then we dive to the deeper end of the pool to start the next phase of the lesson.. First up we had to lie flat on the bottom and then inflate our BCD a little so that we can be neutrally buoyant( floating in mid water). We had to do it such that when we inhale, we will float higher and when we exhale, we'll sink.. sian ji bua i never controll properly and i end up 'flying' here and there... haha.. By the time our lesson end it was already 11pm.. and we haven eat dinner yet!!! then raymond drove us to outram mrt( btw raymond is a very nice and approachable guy but when it comes to scuba diving, he became damn serious.. was shock for a while man..) Next tues will head for tioman for the open water scuba diving le.. very excited but quite scared also.. Hope that everything will go well and i'll get my beginner's cert! | |||
